About Flatirons Mineral Club
The Flatirons Mineral Club is a non-profit organization, established on March 9, 1957, which is dedicated to developing and maintaining interests in Earth science and associated hobbies. The purpose of this Club includes but is not limited to, studying geology and Earth Science, teaching others about our hobby, including young people, collecting gem, mineral, and fossil specimens, and learning lapidary skills.
The Flatirons Mineral Club is affiliated with the Rocky Mountain Federation of Mineralogical Societies, the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies, and the Greater Denver Area Council of Gem and Mineral Societies.
The club sponsors a Junior Geologists program for our younger members of the club and their parents. The Jrs have their own meetings and agendas, as well as field trips.
FMC participates in the Denver Gem & Mineral Show which takes place every September. It also holds a rock and mineral show of its own in December called Rocks & Rails.
The club also manages a dinosaur quarry in Wyoming that is currently being worked with dinosaur fossil excavations being made every summer.
It sponsors classes for members, has a scholarship program for Colorado college students, and honors a Rockhound of the Year at the annual picnic.
Membership dues are $18 per year per household, beginning in January of each calendar year. For more information, contact the club by mail or attend a meeting. To join, fill out a membership application and send it with your dues to the address below, or come to the next meeting and join.
